Will Monks is a lighting and video designer for theatre and live events. A Bristol Old Vic Theatre School graduate, his practice is centred around technology in aid of art and using access tools as creative techniques. Driven by collaboration and variety he is always exploring new ways in which the world can be seen.

Recognition includes Offie Awards: OnComm For Young People 12+ Winner (I, Cinna (the poet), Unicorn Theatre, 2020), Best Lighting Designer twice nominee (Foxes, Seven Dials Playhouse, 2022; The Dark Room, Theatre503, 2017), Best Video Designer twice nominee (Foxes, Seven Dials Playhouse, 2022; Ali & Dahlia, Pleasance London, 2019), UK Theatre Awards: Best Show for Children & Young People nominee (Petula, a National Theatre Wales, Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and August012 co-production, 2022), Fringe First Award and Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award winner (Trojan Horse, Summerhall, 2018).

During the pandemic Will created and consulted on streamed and audience-at-home productions. Some work includes English Touring Theatre’s Open Mic; The Unicorn’s production of Tim Crouch's I, Cinna (the poet), an OnComm Winner; a digital production of Tim Crouch's My Arm as part of both Francesca Moody's Shedinburgh and Santiago a Mil festivals; Sunnymead Court, presented by Defibrillator in association with The Actors Centre, nominated for four Offies including Best Production; and The Great Big Story Mix Up from Roustabout Theatre, an improvised online family show in which the audience’s drawings are used in the video design.

Will also teaches lighting and video design, running workshops and tutoring students. He is currently an Associate Lecturer at Wimbledon College of Art (part of University of the Arts London).
